UR46 - Matthew Genovese - A Different Kind Of Green
Wednesday, January 31st, 2007Matthew Genovese – A Different Kind Of Green
I am a singer/songwriter and guitarist. I would describe my music as a blend of rock, pop, and blues. I play both solo acoustic and full band performances. My music is influenced by artists such as John Mayer, Jimi Hendrix, Ben Harper, the Meters, Marvin Gaye, Eric Clapton, and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

At the age of 18, Matthew Genovese is already establishing himself as an original, compelling singer, prolific songwriter and accomplished musician.Matthew was born and raised in Toronto, where he is currently finishing high school. Courses at Boston’s renowned Berklee College of Music honed Matthew’s guitar skills and songwriting ability. He will be attending Berklee full time in the fall of 2007.
Matthew’s debut album, Today, Today, Today, was released in June 2005 and was produced by Gerry Mosby (who also produced award winning albums for Grammy nominee Euphoria, Juno award winners Alfie Zappacosta and Devon Martin, and the debut CD for Staggered Crossing). Since the release of his debut album, Matthew has worked with some well respected names in the music industry in LA, London UK, Nashville, and Toronto. He has co-written with Tommy Sims (producer of Bruce Springsteens’s “Streets of Philadelphia” and writer of Eric Clapton’s “If I Could Change the World”), Jude Cole (manager of Lifehouse, co-writer of the recent hit “You and Me”, and partner of Ironworks Music with Kiefer Sutherland), Alfie Zappacosta (Juno and American Music Award winner), Dave Dunlop (The Full Nine), and Julian Taylor (Staggered Crossing). Matthew has recorded some of his new material in LA with producers James Barber (Ryan Adams and Courtney Love) and Jude Cole (Rocco DeLuca and Mozella). In Toronto, he continues to work with producer Gerry Mosby, and regularly performs solo, and with his full band.
Matthew is currently spending time in Nashville where he has written and recorded new material for his second album. Tommy Sims is producing the new EP which is due for release in early 2007.
Matthew is represented by veteran entertainment lawyer Jim Zumwalt of the Nashville firm Zumwalt, Almon, and Hayes, whose clients include Faith Hill, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Tommy Sims, Courtney Love, and the estate of Kurt Cobain.
John Mayer has provided the strongest influence and inspiration for Matt to become a singer, songwriter and guitarist. Other important musical influences include Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton, B.B. King, John Lee Hooker, Prince, Jeff Buckley, Ben Harper and Jonny Lang.
Matthew’s mature lyrics and strong, melodic compositions “…are way beyond his years”, comments Gerry Mosby. “He has definite ideas as to who he is musically, and how he wants to be perceived. He amazes me with his exploding talent and energy.” “There’s something there”, says Nashville artist/producer Tommy Sims. “Something very simple and driven by just the right, raw song and recording (ala, Van Morrison or James Blunt).”
Matthew’s ’soon-to-be-released’ EP showcases his phenomenal development as both a musician and as a songwriter. Matthew will be launching the new album in Toronto in early 2007. The future is looking very bright for Matthew Genovese!
